Task Sequence failed with error code 0x8000FFFF

I have a task sequence deploy Server OS to a 60GB HDD VM with 3 partitions. Partition 1 with 40GB 2nd  partition with 10GB fixed and 3rd partition with 10Gb fixed.

The task sequence failed at partitioning disk step with error 0x8000FFFF.

Reviewed SMSts.log found few following errors;
Partition 2 larger than remaining disk space. Requested partition size: 10737418240, remaining size: 10733301760.

Invalid configuration specified.  Please ensure that the task sequence is properly configured.
OSDDiskPart.exe failed: 0x8000ffff

Failed to run the action: Partition Disk 0.
Catastrophic failure (Error: 8000FFFF; Source: Windows)

The execution of the group (Install Operating System) has failed and the execution has been aborted. An action failed.

Operation aborted (Error: 80004004; Source: Windows)
Failed to run the last action: Partition Disk 0. Execution of task sequence failed.
Catastrophic failure (Error: 8000FFFF; Source: Windows)

Task Sequence Engine failed! Code: enExecutionFail

Task sequence execution failed with error code 80004005

Reason:
The error clearly says partition 2 larger than remaining disk space. It is a invalid configuration that is why it failed

Solution:
I have changed the 2nd partition size from fixed 10GB to 100% Remaining space on disk.
This resolve the error 0x8000FFFF.

  1. Ive been scouring the internet for the last two days to see if anyone else had this problem. As usual it was something simple. I cant believe this isnt the default setting when you create a deployment task sequence.
