One the destination hierarchy is ready, use SCCM console
to migrate the data from source hierarchy to destination hierarchy by following
process.
The process is mostly the same when migrating SCCM 2007
to SCCM 2012 or Migrating from SCCM 2012 to SCCM 1511 (Current Branch).
Object Migration Prerequisites:
- Install and Configure SCCM 1511
- Backup the database for existing 2012 environment
- Make sure you have appropriate rights on the source
hierarchy and destination hierarchy
Setting up source hierarchy:
Open SCCM console on the destination hierarchy (SCCB
1511), then go to Administration/
Migration
Expand the Migration
node and click on Source hierarchy
then choose Specify Source Hierarchy;
On specify source
hierarchy,
Enter existing top level site server (CAS or Primary) of

We can test the access rights by verify option;
Once all the information is entered, the specify source hierarchy window will look as below;
As soon as we click on OK, the data gathering will start
the gathering process.
Click on Close, Once the data gathering is completed;

the actual migration, we need to create migration job.
Open SCCM console in SCCB 1511 then go to Administration/ Migration then Right click
on Migration Jobs then choose Create Migration Job;
On the General tab of Create Migration Job Wizard window,
provide a name and select Object Migration in the Job Type from the drop down
then click next;
Select objects that you want to migrate on the Select Objects tab then click next;
On the Content
Ownership tab select new site under destination site to assign all the
rights to the new site then click Next;
If required, add new site code (SCCB 1511) on the destination site code On the Site Code Replacement tab then click next;
On the Security
Scope tab specify the security scope to apply to the migrated objects then click
next;
On the Settings tab;
-
Specify the Schedule to run the migration job
-
Conflict resolution action for already migrated
objects
Review all the settings on the summary page, then click
next;
Click Close on the completion tab to exist the wizard;
Based on the chosen schedule, the migration job will
start and job status can be view in SCCB 1511 console under Administration /
Migration / Migration Jobs
As the job progresses, we can see the object will
populate in SCCB 1511 console.
Migration Clean-up:
When all objects are migrated to the new hierarchy,
before start decommissioning old environment;
-
Validate that all clients are reporting to the
new site and healthy and active
-
All the applicable data is available and
accessible
-
Distribution Points are migrated to the new
hierarchy and no longer required for the content
Once the validation is completed successfully start post
migration clean-up activities by stopping gathering data from the source site.
In the SCCM Console, go to Administration / Migration /
Source Hierarchy\Administration\Overview\Migration
Click on Clean up migration data then select the source hierarchy;
Click Yes to confirm to delete the migration history;
Once the clean-up migration is complete, there will not
be any information available under the Migration node in SCCM console.
Now we can turn off the old SCCM hierarchy.
