Removing a package from a distribution point in SCCM 2012

Many times I have been asked questions around how to delete a package from a distribution point in SCCM 2012? Other comments I have heard was “Removing package was straight forward in SCCM 2007 but in SCCM 2012 it is hard to find”.

Well the reality is there is no easy and/ or hard in removing the distributed package from a distribution point whether it is SCCM 2007 or SCCM 2012. Both have their own processes to manage the environment.

Below is the easiest way to remove an existing package from a distribution point.

1.       Select the package which you want to remove from the distribution point. In this example I have used Operating System image package.

Select the package and right click on the package to open the Properties.

2.       On the properties window, go to Content Locations tab. The content locations tab will display all the distribution point where this particular package has been distributed (as below);

3.       Select the distribution point (s) you want to remove this package from; if you want to remove from all the distribution points select all of them one by one, then click on Remove button on the bottom of the window.

4.       You will be presented with a confirmation window;

5.       Click OK on the confirmation window to remove the package.

6.       Click Ok to close the window

That’s it, The selected package will be removed from the select distribution point(s).
